5/3/04 Hercules no match for Encinal
The Encinal High School girls swimming team won every event as it defeated host Hercules 106-51 last Friday. Katy Wonner, Sarah Bonino and Grace Lui each won two events.
Wonner won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.31 seconds and the 200-yard individual medley; Bonino took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.80 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:29.68; and Lui won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.20 and the 100 back in 1:17.34.
Nancy Quach won the 50-yard freestyle in 51.67 and Stacy Yu won the 500-yard freestyle in 7:01.51.
Encinal won all three relay events. Wonner, Stephanie Yu, Lui and Bonino took the 200-yard medley relay in 2:10.48 and the Jets won the 200-yard free relay in 2:11.00. They also won the 400-yard free relay in 4:15.00.
Encinal JVs vs. Hercules: The Jets won every event in this non-scoring meet. Vickie Lee won the 200 free in 2:65.04; Tirzah Masten won the 200 IM in 1:27.29; and Kelly Tran the 50 free in 34.31. Kristina Luo won the 50 fly in 41.59 and Chelsea McKinley the 100 free in 1:34.37.
Encinal 88, De Anza 43: The Jets had five different winners in this meet, held in conjunction with the one against Pinole Valley at Contra Costa College on April 20.
Stepahnie Yu won the 200 freestyle in 2:35.31 and sister Stacy won the 200 individual medley in 2:32.40. Bonino won the 100 fly in 1:06.03 and Lui won the 100 back in 1:16.62. Wonner won the 100 breast in 1:26.17.
The teams split the two relay events that were held. Encinal's A team won the 200 medley relay in 2:13.13 and the Dons won the 200 free relay.
Encinal JVs 45, De Anza 15: In a low-scoring meet, the Jets got two victories from Tirzah Marsen and one from Lee. Marsen won the 2200 IM in 1:26.53 and the 100 breast in 1:19.16; Lee took the 100 free in 1:17.89.
Encinal won the only relay event, the 200 medley relay, in 2:52.84.
Encinal 80, Pinole Valley 46: Bonino and Stacy Yu each won two events as the Jets swamped the Spartans. Bonino won the 100 fly in 1:06.03 and the 500 free in 5:35.93 and Yu took the 200 free in 2:35.31 and the 200 individual medley in 2:32.40.
Wonner won the 100 breast in 1:26.17 and the Jets' relay teams won the 200 medley relay in 2:13.13 and the 400 free relay in 4:29.15.
Pinole Valley JVs 84, Encinal 38: Masten won two events and Lee one as the Spartans utilized superior depth to defeat the Jets. Masten took the 200 I.M. in 1:26.53 and won the 100 breast in 1:29.16. Lee won the 100 free in 1:17.89.
Alameda 117, Encinal 52: At Encinal on April 9, Amanda Turman and Rizza Hosain were double winners for the Hornets, with Turman winning the 200 I.M. (2:22.59) and the 100 breast (1:13.78) and Hosain the 50 free (28.22) and the 100 back (1:05.36).
Natalie Heimsoth won the 100 free in 59.94.
The Hornets swept the 200 IM, 50 free, 100 free and the 100 breast and went one-two in the medley relay.
Alameda JVs 142, Encinal 17: Maureen Mitchell and Delenie Wong each won two events for the Hornets. Mitchell won the 200 free in 2:26.68 and the 500 free in 6:44.94; Wong took the 100 free in 1:04.50 and the 100 breast in 1:23.00.
Four other Hornets swimmers won events. Y Mai won the 100 IM. in 1:15.04; Becka Smith the 50 free in 28.88; Nicole Louie the 50 fly in 34.65; and Helen Park the 100 back in 1:18.03.
Alameda 135, El Cerrito 27: Jenna Kopel and Sara Van Popering each won two events against the Gauchosat El Cerrito on April 22. Kopel won the 200 I.M. in 2:23.94 and the 100 free in 58.49. Van Poperping took the 50 free in 27.93 and the 100 fly in 1:09.08.
The Hornets had four individual event winners: Heimsoth in the 500 free (6:06.19), Nicole Mendoza in the 200 free (2:22.68), Hannah Marshall in the 100 back (1:11.94) and Tori Breitkopf in the 100 breast (1:21.47).
Alameda JVs 137, El Cerrito 20: Nicole Burns was the only double winner in this meet, but it didn't matter as the Hornets won big.
Burns won the 50 fly in 34.04 and the 500 free in 6:54.28. Five other Alameda swimmers won single events: Celeste Snediker the 200 free (2:42.82), Wong the 100 IM (1:18.11), Denise Gee the 50 free (30.58), Aileen Mung the 100 free (1:15.02); Heather Kindrachuk the 100 back (1:28.72) and Park the 100 breast (1:25.93).
